Japanese felt handbag September 2006

A bag for spring. All the blossoms are out so even though it is still cold, if you stand in a patch of sunlight, you can imagine summer. I made this bag out of red felt, appliqued with white felt flowers.

Otto's hand puppets September 2006

This is part one of a more elaborate project, involving red velvet curtains and a whole cast of characters. I intend to send the three-year-old Otto out on the road to earn his keep, as puppeteer extraordiaire. Punch and Judy were sinister; these felt puppets inhabit a more benign world (although I can't promise that the lion is vegetarian - too much sanitation sucks!).

Vespa Coat Rack September 2006

It's so hard to get out the door with two kids. You have to pack a couple of sets of clothes. You need a lunch box and a drink, wipes and nappies. It's the way I used to pack for an overnight trip. I thought it would make it easier for me if there was an Otto-height coat rack on the wall. Otto is enthusiastic about motorbikes, and I love Vespas.

La Morena September 2006

My friends Alia and Sarah took their baby Sofi to Brooklyn, NYC, and brought me back a tin of La Morena Chipotle Peppers. They are so tasty and spicy, kind of like smoked Spanish paprika. I have been throwing tablespoons full into everything, and I painted these pictures in homage to the beautiful artwork on the tin. ¡México es magica! divider
