Bumble bee

Bumble bee October 2006

Otto has been pestering me for dress-ups, so I went to the fake fur section of Spotlight to oblige. My kids hate Spotlight, melting down while the women cut my fabric, and unraveling the ribbon section. I sewed the costume bubble-skirt style, and augmented it with shop-bought wings and antennae. Otto buzzed around the garden in his socks, gathering pollen for dinner.

The tiger who came to tea

I also made a tiger outfit and we have had a couple of tea parties after Judith Kerr's classic story, The Tiger Who Came To Tea. Owp!

$2 top October 2006

$2 top

There's a great shop in Auckland called Geoff's Emporium. I always pop in to buy some fabric whenever I'm visiting. It's musty and higglety pigglety, but there's always a $4 per metre treasure to be found. When the fabric's so cheap, I don't feel scared to unleash my shonky sewing and pattern-making skills. I imagined myself to be in Project Runway as I made this top.
