You could be an air hostess in the sixties August 2009

I painted these dolls for my sister, Melissa Laing, who has a fascination with all things aeronautical, and has even written a PhD thesis on the topic. The uniforms are mainly United Airlines ones, with an Air Iberia outfit chucked in. I found the uniforms at this admirably obsessive site. The title comes from a Flight of the Concords song - my three-year-old is obsessed with them, performing Bret's Angry Dance to any willing audience.
Oscar-late Wildly April 2009

This is the latest in my bevvy of icons, created on spec for my friend Drew. I based it on an image of Oscar leaning raffishly against a Manhattan wall. I should probably move on to female icons - so far I've painted Nick Cave, Joe Strummer and Derek Jarman. Suggestions, anyone?
Cards, cards, cards July 2009

Every now and then I entertain the notion of producing a range of printed cards, but I never get further than fantasising. As soon as I paint a set, there are thank you and birthday cards to be despatched. These fantasies are filed alongside all my never-executed crafty ideas, and all my books I have not yet gotten on to.
Baby cards July 2009

Maybe half the reason I don't get onto things is because I've been busy having a baby instead - Violet Evely, born 23 July, and lying across my lap as I type.
I am a vampire July 2009

This is another colaborative spped-craft project with my son, Otto. I have to be quick or he'll lose interest. I quite like the outfit we whipped up - it's a bit Jack White, a bit 80s goth.
